HYDROGENi-associated project Deep Purple officially opened its pilot plant at Kongsberg on 12 January 2023.
Deep Purple aims to to provide stable renewable and scalable energy by developing new technologies for offshore energy production, storage and use. Its pilot plant will contribute to the realisation of offshore green hydrogen production by first demonstrating that it is possible to produce hydrogen on land using renewable power and water electrolysis, as well as store excess energy that can later be used to supply energy when needed. This will enable the technology to be validated on a pre-commercial scale before being transitioned to full-scale commercial use offshore.
Deep Purple is a part of HYDROGENi through its coordinator, TechnipFMC. Its consortium members consist of HYDROGENi partners ABB, DNV, NEL, SINTEF and the University of South-East Norway, as well as Energy Valley, GCE Ocean Technology, Innovation Norway, Ocean Hyway Cluster, Repsol, Slåttland, UMOE Advanced Composites and Vattenfall.
HYDROGENi congratulates the project on this latest milestone, and is eagerly awaiting to hear further developments.
