User cases

The user case studies are part of the Integrating Activity. They will demonstrate the potential impact of new concepts, methods and technologies developed in HYDROGENi. The outcome of these cases studies will be fed back to the technical work packages in order to realise environmentally sustainable innovation and guide the prioritisation of research activities.

Mo i Rana
UC1 NORTH

Location

Mo i Rana, Norway

Goal

Demonstrate H2 and H2 carriers as a solution for accelerating the path to net zero at Mo Industrial Park

Tasks

  • Develop H2 value chains including methanol, identifying technology improvements, major applications, and potentials,
  • Identify potential barriers associated with production, storage, distributions, regulations/policy, safety and cost,
  • Include end users within maritime, rail and road transport.

Impact

Fast-track large-scale production, distribution and use of H2 in industrial processes and establishment of H2 industry clusters

UC2 SOUTH-EAST

Location

Herøya, Norway

Goal

Demonstrate feasible and scalable value chains for maritime, transport and industrial end-use

Tasks

  • Develop concepts for site- and case-specific H2 and NH3 value chains with a special focus on distribution to maritime applications,
  • Develop concepts for port infrastructure, bunkering and vessel design,
  • Include end users within industry and road transport

Impact

Accelerate the establishment of an H2/NH3-based hub for maritime applications in one of the busiest ports in Norway, with the potential for upscaling to other end users

Subsea pipeline
UC3 EST

Location

North Sea and West Coast, Norway

Goal

Develop economically viable export concept for H2 (green and blue) from Norway with links to local H2 hubs for domestic distribution and use

Tasks

  • Conduct a feasibility study of delivering H2 through pipelines from offshore and/or onshore production for direct export and domestic use
  • Identify the potential barriers and viable solutions regarding infrastructure, admixture of H2 in natural gas, regulations/policy, standards, safety and cost,
  • Address challenges in H2 compression

Impact

Contribute to the development of a European H2 market by promoting export of energy and technology from Norway
